No 1

Well here goes, I've created this blog because Copy7t challenged me to Janathon - exercise everyday in January and blog about what you've done. I figured to do this I'd need a blog, and so 'run ReNcE run' is born.
I've never blogged before nor have I really read many ( just a few dips into blog7t) so I'm just going to do what I feel is right and say what I want to say.
Most of this will be about my runs - distances, times etc, but then I guess as things progress, I will be trying new activities, exercises etc and then you'll read about them too.
Initially there won't be a strict timetable for posting, but obviously come January it'll be daily

A bit of Background

I'm 37, never really been athletic, nor that energetic full stop, though my job has always been on my feet, moving about and lifting, so that was the extent of my exercise. My eating was anything I fancied, when I fancied, so a lot of cakes, biscuits, and Gregg's Steak bakes, and so I'm now over 14stone with what looks like a beer belly (don't drink enough to warrant one though) and moobs, and was smoking 20 a day for many years.
February 18th 2011, I smoked my last cigarette, just decided that that would do, and stopped - nothing but will power and it didn't seem hard. After that I felt I should do something to repair the damage I'd done to myself, but thinking was all it amounted to.
Roll forward to the middle of August 2011, I found myself in a large bungalow in Devon with half my in laws - 3 sisters, 1 brother, a niece & nephew, along with my wife and 2 boys. The bungalow was next to Wistlandpound Reservoir, and on the 16/08/11 by brother in law Steve - a man around the 18-20 stone mark and equally not a runner, said one morning "I'm going for a run!" - beats sitting around waiting for the rest to drag themselves out of their pits, and so "Wait up, I'll join ya" spurted from my mouth, and off we went round the reservoir at a rather sedate pace. At the end we both thought 'actually although not easy we can do this and so did so every day for the rest of the week........

And So a Runner Was Born

Since that day I have been running 52 times and covered over 211km in 23hrs 53min 39sec (had I realised this earlier I would of run for another 7minutes to break the 24 hrs but hey that'll wait for another day). I've entered 4 parkruns at Riddlesdowne and now have a Personal Best of 25:40 - need to break the 25 minute barrier
I initially ran as far as I wanted whenever I wanted and eventually had settled into a routine of 3 x 5k runs a week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sundays, but now copy7t has mentioned the Paddock Wood Half Marathon, I'm increasing to 1 or 2 10ks.
I will talk more about my runs, routes, warm ups and thoughts in future posts and so until then - Keep Running
